General Information


• South Korea is a country that lacks natural resources, energy and minerals, mountains cover around 70% of the Korean territory.

• Korea began as an underdeveloped agricultural country and a recipient of aid from the international community, especially after the devastating war in the fifties with its northern neighbor, but it succeeded within a few decades and witnessed economic growth and a political and social transformation. It became one of the important countries at the global political and economic levels.

• the Korean Peninsula is located in the far east of Asia, bordered by China to the north, China Sea to the west , and the Sea of ​​Japan to the east, it consists of high heights, rocky shores , few plains  and a continental climate.

• South Korea has an area of ​​98.348 square kilometers, and a population of about 48 million people, mostly in the capital and other major cities. Its capital is Seoul, and the most important cities are Pusan, Taejon and Inchon. The official language is Korean, English is the business and commercial language

• Dominant religions are Buddhism, Confucianism and Christianity, however, both Catholic and Protestant religions are spreading dramatically especially among the youth and the new generations and there are an estimated few thousand Muslim minority.

• Koreans are descendent  from one origin, they  speak one language, and are descendent  from some Mongol tribes that migrated to Korea from Central Asia, Koreans had united politically for the first time in the seventh century AD during the Silla Kingdom, and then had a civilization and culture that lasted until rupture and split of the country again into two states: North and the South after the Korean War in the early fifties of the last century.
