Qatar-Korea Relations


The diplomatic relations between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Korea has started in 1974 and the embassy of Qatar in Seoul was opened in 1992. The relations since then have seen a lot of political, economic and cultural developments and a number of mutual visits. Among those  important visits is that of His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, "may God protect him"  during November 4th -5th 2014 ,and of Her Excellency president Park Geun-hye  on March 6th -9th  2015. Those visits were preceded by the landmark visit of His Highness the Father Emir to ROK in 1999. The mutual visits also included visits at the level of Prime Ministers as well as ministerial visits that contributed to the promotion of the bilateral ties to the level of a Strategic Partnership.

The mutually beneficial strategic relations helped the Korean companies to take active part in a number of developmental, structural and infrastructural projects.  In this respect the two countries succeeded in concluding a number of agreements and  MOUs  in various fields including economy, technology , commerce , investments, avoidance of double taxation, culture ,sports, civil aviation  as well as  security cooperation.

The State of Qatar has been the principal source of supply of NLG to Korea in accordance with a long term contract that ensures   a continual and stable coverage for ROK’s energy needs   in the industrial and residential sectors and especially during the beak of winter. All this has contributed to the formation of a solid basis for a durable , compatible and a  mutually beneficial  relationship between the two countries.
