His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani met, on Monday 9 April 2018 with H.E. the U.S Defense Secretary, James Mattis and discussed with him means to develop the strategic Qatari-US ties in areas of defense, military and security as well as fighting terrorism.  H.H. the Emir and H.E.  the secretary exchanged views on ways to strengthen cooperation in countering terrorism. 

The meeting also tackled a number of current regional and international events, especially the situation in Syria and Yemen.

At the beginning of the meeting, H.E the US Secretary said that the meeting reflects the strong Qatari-US ties, and his country seeks cooperation with Qatar to counter terrorism and to realize peace in the Middle East.

For His Part, His Highness the Emir affirmed the strength of relations between the two countries, pointing out that the State of Qatar hosts more than 10000 U.S. soldiers.
